Compassion In Action Page
“Engaged
Buddhism” combines the cultivation of inner peace with active social
compassion in a mutually supportive and enriching practice. Thich Nhat
Hanh, when he spoke in Scotland in 2003 said "If it (Buddhism) isn't
engaged, it isn't Buddhism." So, preferring the term "Compassion
In Action" EBC Sangha members initially set up a regular group where
Amnesty International activity merged with some "Free Tibet"
work along with other causes. One member is currently active in visiting
prisons with Angulimala - the Buddhist Prison Chaplaincy Organisation.
A recent event was the showing of Al Gore’s film “An Inconvenient
Truth”, and at least one member is involved with the anti-Trident
missile protests.
Want to be involved? Just get in touch on the Bulletin Board (link coming
soon).
The group is open to Buddhists from other communities in Edinburgh.
